Central Mindanao University (CMU) is one of the leading state agricultural universities in the Philippines, popularly known as The Academic Paradise of the South. It offers affordable yet quality education in an environment conducive to teaching and learning.

CMU has been recognized as Level III Institutionally Accredited by the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and Universities in the Philippines (AACCUP). It is also a Level IV state university and ranked 36th in EduRanks 2024 list of 100 Best Universities in the Philippines. It also received the PRIME-HRM Bronze Award for its commitment to excellence in human resources management. Further, the Certification Body of TÜV SÜD Asia Pacific TÜV SÜD Group recommended the maintenance of CMU’s ISO 9001:2015 certification after the successful surveillance audit in March 2025. Moreover, CMU ranked 208th in the World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI) Global Top 300 and one of Asia’s best Higher Education Institutions and overall rated as a 3-star Institution by the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings.

CMU offers 86-degree programs, with 36 undergraduate and 45 graduate degree and five non-degree programs. These programs are implemented in 10 colleges in Agriculture, Arts and Sciences, Education, Forestry and Environmental Science, Engineering, Business and Management, Nursing, Human Ecology, Information Sciences and Computing, and Veterinary Medicine. The University also has a laboratory high school under the supervision of the College of Education, which serves as a training institution for its teacher education program. In general, the University has a total of 890 permanent faculty and staff personnel assigned to the various units. About 17,000 students are enrolled in the different programs of the University during the current semester.

Flagship Programs and Research

Research Accomplishment in 2024

CMU is leading over 20 active, high-impact research projects funded by prestigious agencies including DOST-PCAARRD, DOST-PCHRD, and DOST-NRCP. These initiatives are advancing innovation in:

  • Sustainable agriculture (e.g., adlay and native chicken production, pest management, natural fertilizers)
  • Biotechnology and food safety (e.g., herbal ointments, antimicrobial studies, functional foods, supplementary food formulation)
  • Forestry and environmental conservation (e.g., biodiversity assessment, bamboo product development, GIS-based riparian studies)
  • Enterprise and community development (e.g., value chain analysis, BMBE law implementation, rural product innovations)

Through regionally focused, multidisciplinary research, CMU strengthens its role as a vital driver of knowledge, sustainability, and inclusive development in Mindanao.

Extension Accomplishment in 2024

CMU exceeded its 2024 extension targets by training over 4,000 individuals, assisting more than 12,000 farmers and students, and delivering 161 training sessions across diverse disciplines. The university also served 204 barangays served (28% above target), organized over 1000 farm/school visits, and produced significant outreach through innovative programs on agriculture, digital literacy, health, education, environmental sustainability, and entrepreneurship.

Collaborations and Partnerships

CMU continues to expand its global footprint and local relevance through dynamic and meaningful partnerships. From 2021 to 2024, CMU has formalized over 50 active Memoranda of Agreement (MOAs) and Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) with esteemed institutions across Asia, Europe, and North America. These collaborations encompass student and faculty exchanges, joint research initiatives, curriculum development, international conferences, internships, and community engagement.

Through these alliances, CMU not only strengthens its academic and research capabilities but also enriches global learning experiences, promotes cultural understanding, and addresses regional and international development goals. These partnerships serve as a cornerstone of CMU’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, and inclusive education in a globally connected world.
