Taiwan International Conference on Precision Crop Breeding
14 October 2020
Among the many applications of biotechnology in agriculture in recent years, Crispr is the most popular technique internationally. This technique can produce new breeds, and avoid genetically modified crops that would include foreign genes. Every country has different regulations on new crops and products.
In order to inform the Taiwanese people and related industries about Crispr, the International Conference on Precision Crop Breeding was organized by the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources and Department of Horticulture of the National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) on 13 October 2020. The conference discussions focused on precision crop breeding. Conference participants included experts from Europe, America, Australia, and Asia. During the conference, genome editing tools and their applications were introduced. On the other hand, the conference included talks on the potential, risks, and policy formulation related to the use of Crispr. Better understanding of the practical experience in precision crop breeding through countries was expected and discussions were held on how the regulations and feasibility of genome editing tools in Taiwan will be better adopted.
