NCHU establishes Agricultural Product Value-added Trial Production Center

27 October 2020

The National Chung Hsing University (NCHU) in Taichung, Taiwan officially opened the Agricultural Product Value-added Trial Production Center in September this year.  The Center was part of the rural rejuvenation plan of the Council of Agriculture (COA).

According to NCHU President, Shieu Fuh-Sheng, the center combines school resources to help farmers use local agricultural commodities based on GHP standard as well as offers primary agro-product processing techniques counselling and agro-products pilot services. This is done in collaboration with the government to help farmers engage in agro-product processing and development of innovative products. One example is the transformation of inferior bananas to dried bananas by the farmers to enhance the value of the product and extend expiration date.

The center’s counselling services techniques on the other hand would help reduce mistakes in the trial process, produce a much better final product and lower the cost.

The Center had already piloted 12 agro-products since January during the trial run. This center will offer this service for free until the end of this year.
