Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI)

Tokyo University of Agriculture (Tokyo NODAI) is built on the founding spirit of “Return Students to the Farm,” a vision established by founder Takeaki ENOMOTO to ensure students engage directly with agriculture, not just as desk workers in cooperatives, but as hands-on practitioners in the field. This vision gave rise to our core educational principle of “Practical Science,” introduced by our first president, Tokiyoshi YOKOI, which emphasizes that theory alone is not enough, true learning requires first-hand experience. At Tokyo NODAI, students learn directly from nature and farmers, embracing an inductive approach that values practical, field-based education.

Our academic structure includes 6 graduate schools, 6 faculties, and 23 departments, covering four key areas: Food, Environment, Health, and Natural Resources and Energy. We are committed to fostering sustainable communities by blending rural wisdom with urban innovation, and by promoting food self-sufficiency, responsible land use, and ecological balance. While rooted in tradition, Tokyo NODAI is also forward-looking, exploring advanced fields such as biotechnology and life sciences under a renewed understanding of Practical Science. Our modern interpretation of the founding spirit, “Return Students to the World”, reflects our global outlook and dedication to nurturing individuals who can contribute to a sustainable, balanced global society through a thoughtful blend of hands-on experience and academic excellence.
